The Robert Mede Gallery highlights Leon Bellefleur’s “Chutes” 1984.

“The fundamental discoveries for me were poetry, surrealism and esotericism, and as in art, a certain automatism translating the life of dreams and the subconscious, the world of chance and mystery.”

Chutes is an excellent example of the many influences found in Bellefleurs work. In this canvas Bellefleur has woven together abstract expressionism, the surrealism of Paul Klee and Alfred Pellan, and the spontaneity he learned from his children’s art. With brush and spatula Bellefleurs imagination has created a colourful and lyrical canvas that that is multi-layered, multi textured and characterized by a range of rhythms and pigments that represent his style of lyrical abstraction and poetry.
